Kamil Plocki was born in the historic city of Wroclaw in Poland. His father, also a director of photography, inspired him and opened him up to the world of film making. He moved to Germany at the age of 9 and then to Canada. At 15, he returned to Poland.
His frequent travels and relocations in childhood allowed him to see the world and interact with people of different cultures and backgrounds at a very young age. He continues to travel for work and personal reasons frequently and counts this as his main source of inspiration. Always on the move, meeting people and seeking new experiences that enrich his visual storytelling.
After finishing high school in Wroclaw, he worked as an assistant photographer at MOONMASK Photo Studio. He then went on to attend the University of Silesia and studied cinematography at the Krzysztof Kieslowski Film and Television Department.
Whilst still in film school he became an independent DP at the age of 20 and many of the short films he worked on won numerous awards.
Kamil has worked as Director of Photography to such famous Polish documentary directors as Agnieszka Arnold as well as at the Andrzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing and with Przemyslaw Wojcieszek, Agnieszka Smoczynska Jan Kwiecinski, Anya Meksin, Florian Malak and many others. He has also worked with international directors like Jonathan Glazer and Mark Gray, Anya Meksin,
He frequently commutes between his native Poland and New York City.

While other directors of photography might be capable of composition that is rich and poetic as Kamil is, very few are as attuned to the vital intercourse between cinematography and the film as a whole. This sensitivity is also characteristic of Kamil the person. Warm, brilliantly funny, modest, motivated, diligent, and not afraid of hard work, Kamil contributes much more than his ample talent as a photographer to the projects in which he becomes involved. To put it simply, working with Kamil has been and continues to be one of my greatest pleasures as a filmmaker.

Kamil is a perfect guy to work with - fast, clever, and extremly talented.

Kamil Płocki is one of the most talented D.O.P.s that I have worked with. Above all I would like to stress his ability to understand the real needs of a director. His pictures are able to convey what a director would like to express in a very intricate and intimate manner. It’s always a pleasure to work with Kamil as he is one of the accomodating people I know in the industry. Whilst maintaining a highly professional level he never forgets about being human.

I loved collaborating with Kamil on my short film, "Stefan." He has an amazing eye for composition and lighting and was a joy to work with on set. He immediately understood my thoughts and references and offered opinions and ideas that elevated the look and feeling of the film. I couldn't be happier with the work that we made together.
